Flights from Delhi to Srinagar are about an hour journey, by road 13 hours, by train one has to get down at Rishikesh and go on further in taxis or buses. By luxury bus coach, its 24 hours from Delhi .On arrival you can go straight to your pre-booked Deluxe Houseboat. You will travel to the Lake by car and transfer to the houseboat on a local boat called shikara.
You can enjoy a Shikara Rid" on the Dal Lake - the Shikara will be specially decorated for you in which you will be rowed around leisurely, sipping 'Khawa' if you please - a special Kashmiri green tea flavored with saffron, cardamom and crushed almonds. Visit the Mughal Gardens, Nishat Bagh (Garden of Pleasure) and Shalimar Bagh (Abode of Love) that overflow with the fragrance of a myriad and rare flowers.
Nishat Bag has twelve terraces, one for each sign of the zodiac, rising dramatically higher and higher up the mountain side from the eastern shore of the lake and a cascade of streams, fountains and stone throws at each. Shalimar Bagh is linked to the Dal Lake and has incredibly beautiful terraces as well.
Jammu, the summer capital of the state, is famous for its temples and shopping markets. Other very well known and popular hotspots are Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Leh in Ladakh.
Gulmarg is a 55 km drive from Srinagar. The place is famous for skiing during winter and the best golf course in the country at an altitude of 2732 meters.
An excursion to Pahalgam is a journey of 96 km from Srinagar. Enroute Pahelgaon a visit to the saffron fields of Pampore is a must site to behold ; also the Awantipura ruins which are an 1100 years old Temple complex dedicated to Lord Vishnu. You can visit the banks of Lidder Stream in Pahalgam - the Lidder valley forms the north-eastern corner of Kashmir valley. It has a pleasant, calm and peaceful atmosphere radiated from sober forest covered slopes and woodlands which border this valley.
The floating houseboat stay on the Dal and Nagina Lake is the prime attraction that draws tourists to Kashmir, beautifully decorated with flowers and what not.
