Hotels in Delhi.

India’s capital is an old hand at hospitality. The city is a quiet exporter of charm — Mughal markets, gardens older than most countries, and a quietly excellent food scene that rewards travellers who plan to stay a few days, not a few hours.

A short guide

A few notes on staying in Delhi.

Most travellers come to Delhi for one of three reasons: business at corporate offices in Gurgaon and Noida; a few days of monuments and markets; or as a stopping point between a cooler hill destination and a flight home. Where you stay should follow that purpose.

Where to base yourself

Connaught Place and the Lutyens-era central districts are convenient if your visit is monuments-first. South Delhi (Hauz Khas, Defence Colony) is quieter and food-led. West Delhi — including Janakpuri, where Hotel Clark Heights sits — is a quieter, more residential alternative with better metro access to both the airport and the city centre.

Getting around

The Delhi Metro is the easiest way to cross the city — clean, fast, air-conditioned, and far cheaper than ride-hailing during traffic hours. The Blue Line is particularly useful for west Delhi properties, and the Airport Express links IGI to New Delhi station in about twenty minutes.

When to come

October through March is the comfortable season; mid-November through February gives you the cold-winter Delhi most regulars prefer. Monsoon (July–September) is unpredictable but green, and the city's gardens are at their best. Avoid the late-May / June heat unless you must.

What to plan into a short stay

A morning at the Lodi Gardens, an afternoon at Humayun's Tomb, a slow lunch in a Hauz Khas village restaurant, and an evening walk through Old Delhi if you've never been. Two or three days will give you the city's bones; a week will let you fall for it.
